How the media works

Generally speaking, the media you can target is divided into four distinct sectors:

Newspapers - Local, regional and national. Your stories are likely to be of more interest to local and regional press rather than the nationals.

Education newspapers and magazines - you are probably already familiar with the main publications that write about schools and education.

Radio and TV - again, you should concentrate on targeting local radio, but regional TV stations may be interested in some human interest stories. You can always try them.

Local magazines - these can vary from local business magazines to county wide or church newsletters. Business magazines may be interested in carrying stories with a buisness angle such as your involvement with a local Education Business Partnership,

Remember: Don't forget your own school newsletters if you have them. This is a good way of feeding back information to your parents, children and staff about what projects are going on in your school and initiatives you are supporting.
